How is it Done?

Because vNOTES combines the traditional vaginal techniques with laparoscopy, a great number of procedures can be performed via that route. Laparoscopic instruments are placed through the vagina into the pelvic cavity with the aid of a specialized vNOTES port, giving access to the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries without the need for abdominal skin incisions. This allows complex surgery to be performed without visible incisions with faster recovery and return to normal activities.

Why vNOTES?

While all professional gynecologic surgical societies state that the vaginal approach to hysterectomy is best because it is safest (with the least complications) compared to other routes (such as abdominal, laparoscopic, and robotic) and results in faster recovery for patients with less pain, only a small number of hysterectomies are performed vaginally and patients are not offered this route by many surgeons. vNOTES technique allows a surgeon who is trained and skilled in vaginal surgery to be able to do more hysterectomies vaginally.
